PORT ADELAIDE forward Indy Tahau is thrilled about her side’s first win for 2023, but admits the group isn’t getting ahead of itself.

Tahau contributed with 15 touches and two goals in Sunday’s away game against St Kilda, with one of her majors the result of the football bouncing at an incredible right angle.

The 20-year-old spoke with the Adelaide media on Tuesday to reflect on the win and her freaky goal, while looking ahead to another home clash this weekend.

Tahau on Sunday’s win over St Kilda
“It was super exciting. Obviously, we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves just yet but coming up against the two arguably best teams in the comp (in Adelaide and Brisbane) in the first two weeks, I think we were really chasing our first win and it was really exciting and just an awesome experience to have. But like I said, it's all onto next week now and hopefully we can gear back up and really show what we're about.

“(The win gives us) plenty of confidence, but as I said we don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. We just need to be able to step up against these good teams and prove really what we're about and stick to our plans.”

Tahau on the focus going into the Saints game
“I think we really just needed to stick to our plan and being a new team, we really needed to keep up our game plan for four quarters, and I think we were really able to execute that on the weekend. There's been a big (focus on) pressure factor for us the last two weeks, we’ve been labelled pretty low in the comp for that and that was one of our main focuses, so we really brought the heat and were really happy about the execution of it and it brought the win.”

Tahau on her freaky goal
“I'd call it a fluke but apparently, they count! Only a Sherrin footy can bounce like that. I burst out of the tackle and kicked it and I saw it going toward the point post, so I turned around and starting swearing to my teammates saying I really needed to get that to get ahead before half time. So I was really upset but then I turned back around and they were like ‘it was a goal!’ And I was like ‘what? Are you sure?’”

Tahau on watching her goal back
“Yeah, I have actually (watched it back) and I sort of thought ‘did it hit the post? Maybe it did?’ But then Flip (Erin Phillips) and Gemma (Houghton) were on the line and they sort of celebrated straight away so I thought it must be a goal. But yeah, flukey bounce but lucky we got it.”

Tahau on Phillips’ first goal for Port Adelaide
“She's an absolute star of the comp and for us she's been predominantly a midfielder and she doesn't mind if she kicks goals or not, but just her presence on the weekend made such a difference and she really stood up in a critical time when we needed her.”

Tahau on Katelyn Pope’s club debut
“She brings a lot of speed into our forward line and is a really exciting new player coming through. I think she was pretty happy to be part of our first win (this year).”

Tahau on the Alberton crowd
“We love our fans and we love our crowd and playing here in front of them just means so much more as well. I'd love to see everyone down here (on Saturday) and get the place packed out, it would be awesome.”
