FRESH off the plane from Port Adelaide’s 12-day trip to Europe, Jarrad Redden has revealed to portadelaidefc.com.au a new training approach to get him more time on the park in 2013.

Redden arrived back in Adelaide on Wednesday afternoon with the rest of his Port Adelaide teammates and the club's coaching panel.

The ruckman debuted to nine games in 2012 and impressed early in the year as he maintained sole ruck duties through the pre-season and opening rounds.

He says weight loss as part of his current training regime will allow him to hit the track in the best possible shape later this month.

“I was playing 106kg this year and I’ve dropped down to 102 to 103 kilos,” Redden told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“Going into pre-season it would be nice to be a bit lighter, hopefully get some more running in and put less strain on my body.”

Redden says that he has a performance goal he is targeting ahead of the 2013 season start.

“I definitely haven’t got to that point, it’s been a bit better but there’s still a long way to go.”

Speaking of his first trip to Europe, Redden says the Power group learned much from internationally renowned sporting programs like those of the Australian Institute of Sport, the Liverpool and Milan football clubs and the Australian GreenEdge pro cycling team.

“It was a great experience, my first time to Italy and England,” he said.

“Once we got there we noticed the temperature dropped.

“The boys did a bit of training in Milan, we stayed at the AIS based there, did a bit of sightseeing - it’s a beautiful country.

“It was interesting to see how those different sporting groups operate and some of the technology they’ve got - to see some of the comparisons.”

The Power’s trip encompassed the Elastoplast AFL European Challenge - a reinstating of the league’s exhibition game in the United Kingdom.

In front of a crowd of Britons and expatriate Australians, the Power clinched a 1-point win over the Western Bulldogs thanks to a late fourth quarter goal from Brad Ebert.

“It was something different playing in November and it was good to get to know some of the new boys,” Redden said of the game.

“It was good to get a win as well.

“All the new boys fitted in well and I guess the trip came at a good time to get to know them.”

Port Adelaide will commence its pre-season training campaign in the coming weeks.
