PORT ADELAIDE midfielder Maria Moloney says the team is just as focused as ever to finish the season on a high, despite being out of the race for finals.
The Power played out a hard-fought draw against Gold Coast last weekend, with the home side bringing a high-pressure, contested brand of football.
Moloney spoke to the Adelaide media on Tuesday about the draw against the Suns, finding consistency and what the focus is for the last two games.
Moloney on the playing group’s mindset
“I think two weeks to go now so everybody's really focused on trying to get the Ws on the board for these last two games. We're still in it to win it so we're going to go full steam ahead for the next two weeks.”
Moloney on Saturday’s draw
“It is one of those weird ones, I think everyone says that. The game sort of finishes and everyone just stands still in shock a little bit. I think we were happy enough with three quarters but as always, to win games of footy you have to play four quarters and our first quarter let us down. A draw is always odd but it's better than a loss I suppose. Being a relatively new team, I suppose we're still practicing those scenario type training sessions so we'll implement some of that. It's a big learning for us to take into the next few games.”
Moloney on finding consistency
“I think it's just (about) application. We've just got to stay switched on the entire time. We need to get more into the players initiating that 'switch on' rather than waiting until quarter time and getting sprays from coaches and things like that. So we need to take a little bit more player ownership over it.”
Moloney on the season so far
“I think every team always hopes for more. For us, each week we’ve learnt and tried to apply that learning the following week, so we'll just keep doing that for the remainder of the season.”
Moloney on her team’s desired brand of football
“For us we want our contest and our pressure to be a standout (feature) of our game and some weeks, that's gone up and down a little bit but for the four quarters last week we brought that. (Both Moloney and Abbey Dowrick had 14 tackles), and I think Sachi had 11 (tackles) so it was across the ground so we really liked that.”
