Glenelg midfielder Piper Window has been selected by Port Adelaide as the club's first pick (pick 19 overall) in the AFLW Draft.

Window was named captain of the 2023 under 18 All-Australian team, capping off an outstanding season for the young star.

She claimed the SANFLW best and fairest award earlier this year following a dominant season for Glenelg, and represented the Australia under 18 team as part of the AFL Academy Girls program.

From 11 SANFLW games, she let her football do the talking in 2023, averaging 20.3 disposals, 7.9 tackles and six clearances.

The 18-year-old was also awarded the SANFLW breakthrough player of the year and the coaches award for her outstanding performances across the season.

Window is the first of two picks required for Port Adelaide to complete its 2024 AFLW list.

List manager Naomi Maidment said:
“Piper is a strong-bodied midfielder for her age, and a proven performer against senior women for Glenelg, winning the SANFLW best and fairest this year. A player we think could have an immediate impact at AFLW level in a mid/wing position.”

AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan said:
“A prolific ball-winning midfielder who had an outstanding year, which included captaining South Australia to the National Championships title while also taking out the SANFLW best and fairest after a dominant year for Glenelg. A hard-edged contested ball winner who is creative, particularly by hand. Averaged 17.3 disposals, 3.7 clearances and six tackles at the National Championships to be named captain of the All-Australian team. Was a member of the AFL National Academy and served as captain of the Australia U18 team.”
