JOSH Carr has continued his strong early season form to win the Round 4 SANFL Player of the Week Award, showing he’s over the injuries which plagued his pre-season.

The experienced Premiership player was tough and clean in the clinches as he went about racking up 29 possessions. Development coaches Darren Trevena and Garry Hocking have been impressed with Carr’s continued improvement week-by-week and expect him to continue putting the pressure on for senior selection.

The award is judged by the Power development coaches and is announced exclusively at PortAdelaideFC.com.au each week.

Matt Lobbe was again a standout performer while Matthew Broadbent was instrumental in the Eagles big win over Sturt at Unley. The full wrap is below.

SANFL Player of the Week
Josh Carr (for Glenelg v Central @ the Bay) - A very good game from Josh, finishing with 22 kicks, 7 handballs, 4 marks and a goal. He worked hard at stoppages and won plenty of clearances. Used the ball well and ran hard into defence to help the Bays rebound. He’s improved each week and is now playing at a standard that will put pressure on his AFL teammates after an injury interrupted pre-season.

Danny Meyer was a late withdrawal due to injury.

Jay Nash (for Central v Glenelg @ the Bay) - Again played on the half back flank and had plenty of the ball and was even able to push forward for a few shots on goal. He had good vision in close and is proving he’s a quality player at SANFL level. Just needs to take the next step to push for selection. 20 possessions, 5 marks and 1 goal.

Matt Lobbe (for West v Norwood @ Richmond) - A very good game from Matty giving the mids first use of the ball at stoppages. He also got the chance to move forward where he took a few marks and had a couple of shots at goal. He’s been consistent over the past month and is just waiting for his opportunity at the next level. 6 kicks, 4 handballs, 3 marks, 4 tackles and 28 hitouts.

Michael Pettigrew (for West v Norwood @ Richmond) - Petters keeps improving each week and he’s enjoying his time in the forward line for West. He’s getting lots of the ball and this is creating a variety of chances on goal. Finished with 12 kicks, 7 handballs, 8 marks and 3.2.

Scott Harding (for West v Norwood @ Richmond) - Started the game well before picking up an injury early in the second quarter. He pushed forward after the injury but wasn’t able to have an influence on the game because of the knock.

Hamish Hartlett (for West v Norwood @ Richmond) - He’s progressed nicely in both game time and performance over the past three weeks. He’s working hard to get the ball and he’s using it well when he has it. Fitness and form is no issue and he’ll be looking to step up to the next level in the next few weeks. Had 15 kicks, 6 handballs, 7 marks, 4 tackles and 1.1.

Daniel Webb (for West v Norwood @ Richmond) - Webby started well kicking a goal in the first 30 seconds of the game. He presented well and although he didn’t stick as many marks as he would have liked, we were still impressed with his effort. He picked up a knock to the hip in the third quarter which hampered his final quarter impact. Fished the day with 5 possessions, 2 marks and 2 goals.

Nick Salter (for Eagles v Sturt @ Unley) - Had 15 possessions, 6 tackles and 3 goals playing up forward. He got caught wrestling with an opponent before taking a brilliant one-handed mark. Needs to keep leading to create more opportunities for himself. He continues to put the pressure on the AFL forwards as a consistent goal-kicker.

Matthew Broadbent (for Eagles v Sturt @ Unley) - Broady’s best game for the year with 20 touches including 5 clearances and 3 goals. Worked hard both ways and put on some great pressure applying 9 tackles. Showed some real class around the stoppages and up forward. He’ll be looking to back that performance up with another quality game to really push for selection.

Jasper Pittard (for Sturt v Eagles @ Unley) - Jasper picked up some nice touches and also kicked a good goal on the run, a shot he’d been missing in previous weeks. Hurt his hamstring after an extended spell on the bench.

Andrew Moore (for North v South @ Noarlunga) - Played on the half back flank and provided some nice rebound, reading the play well. Strained a muscle in the third quarter which limited his impact but he should be right to play this week.

Jarrad Redden (for Eagles reserves v Sturt reserves @ Unley) - Had a good battle with Kurtze in the ruck and improved his efforts around the ground. He worked hard to take a few good marks and is building on his form each week.

Glenn Dawson (for Eagles reserves v Sturt reserves @ Unley) - The Cougar worked very hard for his two goals on Saturday. He took another big hanger which is what he was doing regularly before we drafted him. Spent a bit of time down back as well but his biggest impact was in the forward line.

Jordan Johns (for South reserves v North reserves @ Noarlunga) - Jordan moved into the middle this week and had a very good game, playing a bit of a sweeping role. He made good decisions when he had the ball and had a good impact on the game. 9 kicks, 10 handballs, 6 marks and 5 tackles.
