PORT ADELAIDE could be forced into as many as three changes for Thursday night’s Showdown LV.
With Aliir Aliir (concussion) and Sam Powell-Pepper (knee) ruled out, and captain Connor Rozee in some doubt with a low-grade hamstring strain, there will be opportunities for others to step in.
Defenders Ryan Burton and Tom Clurey and forward Jed McEntee were kept out of Saturday night’s SANFL game once those injuries were confirmed to enable them to be fresh given the short turnaround between games and would undoubtedly be in the mix for Showdown selection.
Burton and Clurey would be ideal replacements for Aliir, while McEntee has become renowned for his forward pressure and finishing in front of goal, making him a suitable swap for Powell-Pepper.
Francis Evans could also be a chance to be included in that forward role, while he has shown in recent weeks that he is also capable of spending time on the ball.
Evans is averaging 20 disposals per game over the last three weeks in the SANFL and has booted five goals in that time.
Against Norwood on Saturday night, he had 16 disposals and 1.1, as well as having two clearances and laying nine tackles.
Ruck Dante Visentini was among the AFL emergencies last week, but also impressed in the SANFL, having 24 hit-outs, seven clearances, and ten disposals. The 21-year-old also had eight tackles in a low-scoring, high-pressure game.
Forward Jeremy Finlayson is also available after serving his three-game suspension. The experienced big man offers the versatility of giving ruck Jordon Sweet a chop-out in the ruck, and that may entice selectors to bring him straight back into the line-up.
Given the Showdown falls on a Thursday night, Port Adelaide will name its side to tackle the Crows on Wednesday evening.
The match is a home game for the Crows, with first bounce on Thursday night is at 7:00pm at Adelaide Oval. Remarkably after 54 Showdowns, the ledger is even with both sides having had 27 wins.
