PORT ADELAIDE defender Tom Jonas says playing Carlton at the MCG on Saturday presents a danger game after recent results against the Blues.

The Power dominated Carlton to win by 90 points at Adelaide Oval the last time they met but lost the previous two meetings by two points and four points at Docklands and the MCG in 2016 and 2015 respectively.

It will be the first time Port Adelaide plays at the MCG this season, and one of only two visits in the fixtured regular season.

“We love getting over to the G, it’s a big deck and obviously the home of footy and we think it suits us well,” Jonas told Adelaide radio station FIVEaa.

“But Carlton is a danger game over there, they got us done a couple of times in the last few years so we’d be silly to underestimate them.

“I think it’s Kade Simpson’s 300th so they’ll come out breathing fire as well.

The Blues are currently bottom of the ladder having won just once this season while the Power is fifth, having won three games in a row and five of the last six.

Carlton gave Collingwood a scare last Sunday and have shown signs that they were close to a second win of the season, led by midfield general Patrick Cripps and the brilliant Charlie Curnow.

“They always come out and make it a tough game,” Jonas said.

“They’re a really talented young group so we’ll have to focus on getting back on top in the contested ball, which is going to be tough with a bloke like Patty Cripps really demanding the ball in the midfield.”

Jonas praised the efforts of his defensive teammates in the win over Melbourne and singled out Dougal Howard who had transitioned from a ruck/forward to an athletic defender who led the league in spoils.

He said he had suggested Howard should start on Curnow.

“That’s what I’ve been saying all week,” Jonas said.

“If something was to go wrong then maybe I’ll have a go but I think you could start Dougs and we’ll take it from there.

“(Curnow) is super talented and he can sit on people’s heads, and he’s one of those players who can change a game so we’ll have to pay him plenty of respect.”
