PORT ADELAIDE has completed its AFLW list for the 2024 season with the signing of athletic defender Teagan Germech as a replacement player.

Germech fills the final list spot created by Hannah Dunn (pregnancy) and Lauren Young (knee) being moved to the inactive list.

A former elite netball player, the 21-year-old has AFLW experience, having played seven games for Greater Western Sydney as an injury replacement player last season following a stint as a train-on player with the Sydney Swans.

In 2024 Germech has divided her time between GWS in the VFLW and the East Coast Eagles in the Sydney Premier Division, and at 177-centimetres, can play as a rebounding defender or in the ruck.

Port Adelaide List Manager Naomi Maidment said Germech was driven to get another chance at AFLW level, and her athleticism and versatility made her an appealing signing.

“Teagan is a tall rebounding defender who has shown she can also pinch hit in the ruck, including when she had 51 hit-outs in round 6 of the VFL this season for GWS,” Maidment said.

Teagan is very athletic having previously come from a high level netball background and also a highly competitive teammate.

“She demonstrated last season with the Giants that she is capable of coming into a side as a replacement player and having an impact at the highest level.

Her inclusion gives us depth across a number of roles.”

Earlier this month, Port Adelaide announced it had also recruited forward-midfielder Caitlin Wendland from Central District as a replacement player.

Port Adelaide’s AFLW squad will return to the club for pre-season training next week.
