FOR the first time Port Adelaide’s AFLW players will take part in a Community Camp, heading to the Barossa Valley on Tuesday to deliver education programs in schools and host a football clinic.

The club’s inaugural AFLW community camp will see players engage with more than 2500 students at 15 schools across the region before running a clinic and signing session at the Nuriootpa Football Club.

Players and Port Adelaide Football Club staff will use the visits to grow the game and spread messages around healthy lifestyles and positive relationships.

The General Manager of Power Community Limited, Jake Battifuoco says the club is excited to undertake its first AFLW Community Camp, following the success of similar camps with the men’s program.

“We are thrilled to be bringing our women’s playing group to the Barossa Valley for our inaugural AFLW Community Camp,” Mr. Battifuoco said.

“There is a lot of excitement about football in the Barossa at the moment following the announcement that the region will host at least one game in Gather Round next year, and we hope our visit will add to that excitement.

“With our AFLW season fast approaching, it’s great for our players to visit schools across the region to get kids excited for the season while also hosting an AFL Auskick Super Clinic at Nuriootpa Football Club.”

“We hope our visit will help drive participation in female football in the area for many years to come.”

The clinic at the Nuriootpa Football Club will run from 4:00pm-5:30pm and include both a player signing session and free barbecue for participants.

A number of clubs will take part in AFLW Community Camps over coming weeks, aiming to increase participation in Auskick, schools and local football, and to build on the connection that AFL clubs have within regional communities.
