PORT Adelaide captain Travis Boak's explanation for his side's poor form in 2015 is as simple as it is damning.
The Power just aren't working hard enough.
The side collapsed against the Brisbane Lions on Sunday, fading badly to lose what was considered a straightforward match by 37 points.
After finishing last season a kick out of the Grand Final, Port now sits 12th on the ladder with just three wins – including close calls against Adelaide and Hawthorn.
Just as coach Ken Hinkley did after the Power's loss to West Coast, Boak slammed his teammates' intent when he arrived home in Adelaide on Monday afternoon.
He said the side's lack of effort was damaging the respect Port had rebuilt over the past two years.
"We need to have a good hard look at ourselves as a group and really speak honestly with each other about it, because what we produced on the weekend is nowhere near good enough," Boak said.
“’Kenny’ was fuming, all the coaches were fuming and all the players were really disappointed in each themselves and in each other.
"What's really stood out over the last couple of weeks is our work rate – it just hasn't been there and that's really, really disappointing because what we've prided ourselves on and got back to where we wanted to be was through hard work.
"And now it's non-existent."
Boak added the only way to fix poor work ethic was to work harder.
Adding extra incentive this week is the 300th and final game of club champion Kane Cornes.
Cornes will retire after Sunday's match against Richmond to join the fire service.
Boak said winning was a non-negotiable.
"We've set standards and we're not living up to those standards as a group," he said.
"It can turn around quick or it can turn around in three or four weeks - but you have to make a choice.
"We've spoken about it already … we've got to get back to doing everything right, doing the little things right and working hard.
"We need to win, we need to make sure we turn our season around and get that form back and get that hunger back but certainly it's a massive week for Kane and we want to send him out on a great note.
"We've just got to play the footy that Kane's played his whole career that's desperate footy on the edge."
