FORWARDS Mitch Georgiades and Todd Marshall are a chance to return to Port Adelaide’s line-up for the Round 24 trip to Perth to face Fremantle.
Georgiades has missed the wins over Melbourne and the Crows after suffering a minor quad strain at training earlier this month, though was in fine form before that booting a career-best 37 goals for the season including 15 across the four games prior to his injury.
Marshall, who replaced Georgiades in the side against the Demons, has been progressing through the concussion protocols and if cleared will be available to tackle the Dockers.
The Power will be forced into at least one change following the suspension of Dan Houston. During last Saturday night’s Showdown, Ryan Burton was shifted from the forward line into defence when Lachie Jones was subbed out and would be the logical replacement for Houston, though others are likely to come into consideration.
Jones himself will need to prove he has overcome the achilles soreness that saw him taken out of the game after half time.
Selectors will also weigh up whether to include defenders Dylan Williams or Josh Sinn, who each offer neat distribution off half back.
In Saturday’s SANFL Showdown, Sinn was among the leading disposal getters in a mostly disappointing outing by the Magpies. He had 23 disposals, seven marks and five tackles, as well as providing a game-high nine rebound 50s.
Williams was next best with six rebound 50s from his 13 disposals. He also took four marks and laid two tackles. Sinn has played four AFL games this season, but none since the Round 17 win over St Kilda, while Williams played the most recent of his five AFL games this year in the Round 20 win over Richmond.
Midfielder Will Lorenz (27 disposals, 12 tackles, eight clearances) was Port Adelaide’s best in the SANFL game at Adelaide Oval, while rucks Ivan Soldo (27 hit-outs, eight disposals, five tackles, one goal) and Dante Visentini (25 hit-outs, nine disposals, six tackles, two clearances) toiled manfully.
Small forward Jed McEntee was an unused AFL emergency during the Showdown and could be in the frame if the selectors opt to go smaller in the forward line.
Port Adelaide will on Thursday evening name an extended squad for Sunday evening’s game against the Dockers. The squad will be trimmed to the game-day 23 on Friday afternoon.
The game at Perth’s Optus Stadium gets underway at 4:10pm local time / 5:40pm ACST.
