THE Port Adelaide Football Club and the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club have welcomed tonight’s decision by the SANFL clubs and SA Football Commission to endorse the ‘One Port Adelaide’ proposal.

The proposal will see the off-field merger of the two clubs, with substantial financial benefits for the united Port Adelaide entity.

“This is an historic decision and an historic day, and we are very grateful for the opportunity that has been delivered to us by the SANFL and its member clubs,” Port Adelaide Football Club President Brett Duncanson said after the vote.

“We are very mindful that there is still one step to go in this process, a vote of Magpies Members tomorrow night.

“Given the feedback we have received during this process, including at the Information Night we held two weeks ago, we are very hopeful that tomorrow night’s meeting will approve the reunification of our clubs as One Port Adelaide.”

Port Adelaide Magpies President John Firth said it was a momentous night for the Port Adelaide football community.

“We have worked hard to develop this proposal with the Power and the SANFL over the past few months and we are really thankful to have it supported tonight,” Firth said.

“This is a great win for the Port Adelaide football community and we are confident our Members will endorse it tomorrow night.”

A media conference with SANFL Executive Commissioner Leigh Whicker, Brett Duncanson and Port Adelaide Magpies President John Firth will be held upstairs in The Port Club at Alberton at 11am tomorrow (Tuesday 16 November).
