OLLIE WINES will play his 250th AFL match on Sunday against Fremantle in Perth.

The 2021 Brownlow Medallist will bring up his milestone in the final game of the 2024 AFL home and away season, with a chance the result could determine where Port Adelaide finishes on the ladder.

Here are some of the key numbers around Wines’ arrival at 250 AFL games to share with your mates while you are taking in the game.

 7 – Wines was selected by Port Adelaide with pick 7 at the 2012 AFL National Draft from the Bendigo Pioneers.

2013 – Wines made his debut in a big round 1 win against Melbourne at the MCG in 2013, with 24 disposals and a goal in Ken Hinkley’s first game in charge of Port Adelaide. He played all 24 games that season in a remarkable debut year, averaging 19 disposals.

12,155 – Wines is the 12,155th player to appear in the VFL/AFL and the 144th to appear for Port Adelaide in the AFL.

16 – Wines has worn the number 16 guernsey in each of his 249 games for the club. Coincidentally the last man to wear the jumper was Warren Tredrea who ranks just above Wines in the all-time AFL games list for Port Adelaide. Tredrea’s 255 games has him ranked fifth all time with Wines closing rapidly in sixth.

5 – Wines averages five clearances per game across his career, raking him as elite among other midfielders across the competition His best is 14 clearances in a game against Hawthorn in Round 16, 2021.

100 – the number of goals Wines has managed in his career. His best return in a season was 15 in 23 games in 2017 and his best individual game haul was the three goals he managed against Fremantle in the 2014 semi-final. He booted his 100th goal after the siren in the big win over Sydney in Round 21.

120 – the number of Brownlow votes Wines has received in his 249 career games. His owns the record (with Dustin Martin, 2017) of 36 votes in a single season – his 2021 Brownlow Medal winning year. He has polled 12 votes in his 15 games so far against this week’s opponent Fremantle, the most of any side along with the 12 he has polled in 16 games against Collingwood.

43 – Wines’s record disposal tally in a game came against Hawthorn in Round 16, 2021 when he also had his career-high 14 clearances. He also had 43 disposals two weeks earlier against Gold Coast. Only two players (Peter Burgoyne with 45 in 2008 and Tom Rockliff with 44 in 2019) have had more disposals in a game for Port Adelaide in the AFL.

777 – Wines had a record 777 disposals (at an average of 32.38 per game) in 24 games in 2021, the most in a single season by any Port Adelaide player in the AFL. The next best was Kane Cornes’ 696 in 25 games back in 2007.

15 – the number of times Wines has played this week’s opponent Fremantle for an 9-6 win-loss record. He has a 2-4 record in his six games at Optus Stadium – the venue of Sunday’s game.

2 – the number of milestone matches Wines has won so far. His 50th game was a seven-point loss to Fremantle at Subiaco in Round 1, 2015. His 100th was back at Adelaide Oval and a big 70-point win over North Melbourne in 2017, while game 150 came in a 21-point win over Richmond at Adelaide Oval in Round 11, 2020. Unfortunately, his 200th game came in a six-point loss to Collingwood at the MCG in Round 20, 2022.

27.67 – Wines averages 27.67 disposals against Fremantle, more than he averages against any other side. The next best is the 27.21 disposals he averages against Sydney.
