BACK-to-back wins means it will be difficult for the Power’s match committee to make significant changes to the side as we face an injury-hit Carlton line-up at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night.

But with several players showing good form in the SANFL, there’ll be hot competition on the training track on selection day tomorrow.

PortAdelaideFC.com.au takes a look at who’s in the mix for Round 9.

Port Adelaide

A host of players are close to returning from injury, including John Butcher, Jaspper Pittard and Cam Hitchcock, but of the players on the injury list only Aaron Young is a chance to face the Blues.

Young has missed the past two games with an ankle injury and will once again be tested at training on Thursday.

He could place pressure on Paul Stewart, who was named as the sub for the second consecutive week in Round 9. However, Stewart’s return of 8 disposals in a little over a quarter should be enough to hold his spot.

Andrew Moore, who has been close to selection having been named emergency the past two weeks, received high praise from Daniel Healy in his SANFL player review and along with Young and the experienced David Rodan, would be first in line for a recall.

Brent Renouf’s sparkling fortnight (84 hitouts in the past two games) is likely to keep Jarrad Redden and Matt Lobbe out of the side.

The match committee will need to decide if Daniel Stewart’s recent form is enough to keep his place as the back-up ruck against a Carlton side heavy on talls, with Robbie Warnock, Matthew Kreuzer and Shaun Hampson all likely to front in Round 10.

The Power will have a closed training at AAMI Stadium on Thursday.

Carlton

Coach Brett Ratten has already ruled Jarrad Waite and Nick Duigan out of Saturday night’s clash, but said Chris Yarran “will play” after missing Round 9 with a toe injury.

Ratten rated key defender Lachie Henderson as a “50/50” chance to take his place in the starting 22.

Carlton’s extensive injury list - which includes key midfielders Marc Murphy and Andrew Carrazzo - has stretched the Blues’ list, with several fringe players being given an opportunity over the past fortnight, including Josh Bootsma, Brock McLean and Robbie Warnock.

With no VFL played last weekend combined with the fact the Blues had a resounding win over the Demons, expect these players to hold their spots.

Carlton flies to Adelaide on Thursday and will train at Richmond Oval at 10am on Friday.

With the potential for rain on Saturday night, don’t be surprised to see a late change for either side.

The teams for Port Adelaide and Carlton will be named at 5.55pm on Thursday and you can see them here first.
