LACHIE JONES and Jeremy Finlayson have both inked contract extensions to remain at Port Adelaide.
Both players’ current deals were due to expire at the end of the 2024 season, with Jones signing on for two more years, and Finlayson extending for one.
Jones has found his feet at AFL level in 2024, playing 18 games and recording almost 11 disposals per game in defence.
Known for his ability to hunt the opposition, he boasts speed, power and a team-first brand of football.
The 22-year-old from Bute in country South Australia has now played 53 games in black, white and teal, after making his debut in 2021.
“I’m really happy to be at Port Adelaide for another two years,” Jones said.
“I love the environment at the club and I’m excited about being part of the future of this playing group.
“It’s an honour to be able to continue my career here and am looking forward to what the next couple of years brings.”
Finlayson arrived at Port Adelaide from the GWS Giants during the 2021 trade period, after expressing his desire to move to South Australia for family reasons.
The 28-year-old has played 120 games between his two clubs, and showed his versatility in 2022 when he was forced to take on lead ruck duties.
With 161 AFL goals to his name, the left-footer demonstrates good goal sense and an ability to follow up from his ruckwork at ground level.
Finlayson kicked 38 majors in 2023, but unfortunately had his 2024 season cut short, after suffering a spleen laceration in Round 18.
“I’m really happy to be at Port Adelaide for another season,” Finlayson said.
“Some of my best friends are here at this club and for me, having a welcoming and comfortable work environment to go to every day is so important.
“The support that me and my family have received from the club over the last three years has been amazing, and I’m really excited to be sticking around.”
List Manager Jason Cripps looks forward to seeing the ongoing contribution from the pair.
“Lachie has continued to grow and develop in a professional AFL environment and has been a real asset this season.
“We are excited about what he brings to the club, and the potential he has as a young player.
“Jeremy is an important part of our forward group and he provides flexibility with his ability to second ruck.
“His size and athleticism makes him a difficult match up and we look forward to having a fit and healthy Jeremy for 2025.
“Locking both players in for at least another year also gives us some further continuity in our playing group.”
Jones was taken by the Power at pick 16 in the 2021 national draft, while Finlayson arrived at the Giants with pick 85 in 2014.
