TALENTED midfielder Shineah Goody has added another reason to smile, inking a contract extension to add to her AFLW Week 1 Telstra Rising Star nomination.

Goody was recognised by the Rising Star judges following her impressive AFLW debut in Saturday night’s season opening Showdown.

The teenager gathered 15 disposals for 423 metres gained, had four tackles and a goal in an eye catching first game on the hallowed turf at Alberton Oval.

She has since agreed to terms on a deal that will see her remain at Port Adelaide until at least the end of 2026.

Hailing from Edithburgh on the Yorke Peninsula, Goody burst onto the SANFLW scene as a 15-year-old and developed into one of the most complete players in that competition.

Signed by Port Adelaide as part of the 2023 Expansion U18 Talent Pathway Pre-Signing Period after coming through the club’s Next Generation Academy, she was one of the best midfielders in her draft class – hard at the ball, athletic and able to make good decisions under pressure.

After a dominant 2022 NAB AFLW National Championship in which she was named tournament MVP, South Australian MVP and All-Australian, she backed it up with a second All-Australian selection after the 2023 championship and then won the Woodville-West Torrens SANFLW Best and Fairest.

After Goody’s strong first pre-season including impressive showings in the hit-outs against Adelaide and Melbourne, Port Adelaide List Manager Naomi Maidment was pleased to have her tied to the club for the next three seasons.

“Shineah is such a strong two-way runner and her skills by hand and foot are really solid for someone in their first year at the level,” said Maidment.

“She’s a natural footballer who makes good decisions under pressure and as she builds on her strength and athleticism, we know she will continue to make an impact on the future of this club and the AFLW competition.”

Goody is the first Port Adelaide player to be nominated for the Telstra AFL Rising Star award since ruck Matilda Scholz in Round 2 last season.
