FREMANTLE has redeemed itself after an embarrassing outing last week, trumping Port Adelaide in week three by eight points at Alberton Oval on Saturday afternoon.
Despite trailing at three-quarter time, the Dockers closed the margin in the final few minutes of the match with back-to-back behinds before a goal to Hayley Miller secured the 5.7 (37) to 4.5 (29) victory.
Miller, who finished with 18 disposals, seven clearances, and five tackles, left the field shortly after her match-sealing goal with an apparent knee injury, but said post-match it was a precautionary move.
Port Adelaide's Julia Teakle - who has emerged as the Power's stay-at-home marking forward - was at her brilliant best, kicking the opening goal of the game before spinning out of a tackle to boot her second major of the day in the third term.
After a slow start to the match, Power forward Caitlin Wendland gave her side back-to-back goals when she booted her maiden major shortly after Teakle's opener to give the home side an early buffer.
Justine Mules-Robinson (10 disposals, four tackles three marks), standing in as Port captain for the injured Janelle Cuthbertson, proved to be a strong asset for her side.
Things got heated in the second term between Miller and Mules-Robinson after Miller was thrown to the ground with a thump that could be heard around the stadium.
Fremantle didn't kick its first goal of the match until more than halfway through the second quarter, but quickly set about closing the gap the Power had gained.
Ebony Antonio (nine disposals) registered the Dockers' first goal of the game and her first goal of 2024, chipping it between the posts after breaking free from Port's defence.
Only a few minutes later Gabby O'Sullivan (14 disposals, four tackles) kicked Fremantle's second and Fremantle's comeback was on.
A free kick for Olivia Levicki in the third term - which ended in a goal - gave Port some much-needed breathing space as it worked to keep a fiery Fremantle at bay.
However, Dockers forward Aine Tighe (13 dispoals, four tackles) was determined to keep closing the gap, kicking a goal in quick response to bring the margin back to seven points at the final change.
Young Port defender Amelie Borg (eight tackles, four marks) impressed after she was tasked with containing the dangerous Tighe in attack.
An impressive boundary banana by Fremantle's Amy Mulholland saw the gap close early in final term, before Miller ultimately secured Fremantle's second win of the season with her late major.
Fremantle's win was built on a dominant final term, winning the inside-50 count 16-1 and kicking 2.3 while keeping Port scoreless.
AFLW leading goalkicker Teakle finished with a game-high two majors for Port, with Kirsty Lamb (16 disposals, eight clearances) and Maria Moloney (17, five) both busy.
