TWO of Port Adelaide’s brightest young players have recommitted to the club with Ella Boag and Lauren Young each agreeing to terms on respective contract extensions.

The new agreements will tie them each to Alberton until at least the end of the 2026 season.

Boag won the Coaches’ award in Port Adelaide’s inaugural AFLW campaign as testament to her development in her debut season, after being secured with pick 31 in the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft.

The highly competitive and speedy winger played the best of her 14 career AFLW games in Round 9 last season against Hawthorn when she recorded 15 disposals and seven tackles.

Still just 20 years-old, Boag had a strong pre-season and has played all three games for the side so far in 2024.

“Ella is a player we value highly. She continues to develop her game and is a great person to have in our playing group,” said the club’s AFLW List Manager, Naomi Maidment.

“She provides plenty of run and speed, and we are looking forward to what she will bring to our side in 2024 and beyond.”

Teenager Young has yet to feature for the club, having been signed as part of the 2023 Expansion under 18 Talent Pathway pre-signing period.

Part of Port Adelaide’s Next Generation Academy program for a number of years before being signed, the 18 year-old already boasts a long list of accolades.

At 15 she was named the best and fairest player in the SANFLW competition, as well as South Australian MVP and an All-Australian following the Under 19 National Championships. In the same year, she also won the SANFLW’s breakthrough player award and coaches’ award.

While her versatility and ability to play in any position makes her an exciting prospect, Port Adelaide supporters will have to wait until at least next season to see Young play as she rehabilitates following an ACL injury in the off-season.

“Lauren has come through our NGA program and we have seen what she is capable of in a number of roles before we were able to sign her as part of the talent pathway pre-signing period,” said Maidment.

“While she won’t be on the park this season because of her injury, we are excited about the role she will play along with some of our other emerging talent in taking our club forward for a long time to come.”
