JO MILLER will make her AFLW debut when Yartapuulti takes on the Gold Coast on Saturday afternoon.
Midfielder Jo Miller was signed as an injury replacement player in the pre-season having excelled at SANFLW level for Glenelg in 2024, ending her season with a second-placed finish in the Bays’ best-and-fairest count.
Previously a train-on player at Yartapuulti, Miller is a former triathlete, noted for her endurance and ball-winning ability.
“Jo is actually a Queenslander and so it will be awesome for her family, who are based in just south of Brisbane, to be able to come to the game and watch her debut,” said senior coach Lauren Arnell of Miller.
“She's had a bit of a long run into playing her first AFLW game.
“She's come out of Brisbane, then Darwin, and then moved straight down to play for Glenelg in the SANFLW, and put together a really nice back end of the year. We signed her as an inactive replacement player so, it's been thick and fast, and it feels like a bit of a journey for her already.
“She’s a former triathlete and someone who I think will add some really nice run to our midfield on a big ground at Carrara.”
Miller comes into the side to replace experienced defender Ange Foley, who has been managed.
Versatile tall Alex Ballard and defenders Maddy Keryk and Alissa Brook have been named as emergencies.
Yartapuulti will face the Suns at People First Stadium on the Gold Coast from 3:05pm AEST / 3:35pm ACDT.
If you can’t get to the game, it will be broadcast live on 7TWO, Fox Footy and Kayo.
