Tom Cochrane is now a Port Adelaide player after being selected by the club at pick 13 in the Telstra AFL Rookie Draft on Friday.
Son of former Port Adelaide player Stuart, Cochrane is a mid/forward who boasts good hands and stoppage craft.
The 18-year-old is solid in the contest, and was one of the best afield in Central District’s under 18 grand final loss this year, with 22 disposals and a goal.
In a big week for young talent, Cochrane joins Joe Berry, Jack Whitlock and Christian Moraes at Alberton, with the trio taken over the last two nights of the Telstra AFL National Draft.
Port Adelaide National Recruiting Manager Geoff Parker says:
Tom is a competitive and combative mid/forward. He can win his own ball in the contest and has power to break from traffic and the kicking skills to finish his work inside 50.
AFL Talent Ambassador Kevin Sheehan says:
Medium midfielder/forward with good pace who excels at stoppages with his quick hands and vision. Also a dangerous player when he pushes forward. Comes from a prominent football family with his father Stuart playing 104 AFL matches in total at North Melbourne and Port Adelaide and his younger brother Doug winning the best and fairest at the 2024 Marsh AFL National Development Championships – U16 Boys when representing South Australia. Was a very consistent performer throughout the year for Central District at under-18 level, averaging 19.4 disposals (50 per cent contested) and kicking 21 goals. Was among his team’s best in their narrow Grand Final loss to Woodville-West Torrens.
