Port Adelaide has claimed key position tall Chloe Gaunt with its fourth pick (pick 48 overall) in the Telstra AFLW Draft.
A former triple jumper and rugby league player who came to football late, Gaunt has developed through the Gold Coast Suns and most recently the Brisbane Lions academies.
The athletic key forward impressed playing with community club Coorparoo and with the Lions Academy and was invited to the AFLW national combine where she placed inside the top ten in both the standing and running vertical leap tests.
At 182cm, Gaunt worked hard on her fitness with a view to spending more time in the ruck, averaging six disposals, 2.3 marks and 2.8 tackles per game and booting three goals in four Coates Talent League matches for the Lions.
A strong contested mark and highly regarded for her speed and strength, the 18-year-old presents a strong target inside 50 and doesn’t need many opportunities to impact on the scoreboard.
List Manager Naomi Maidment said:
“A versatile tall from the Brisbane Lions Academy, Chloe plays as a key position forward and can pinch hit in the ruck.”
