GEMMA HOUGHTON will be kicking goals for Port Adelaide again in 2025 after agreeing to terms on a contract extension.

Fresh off a career-best 17 goals in 14 games this season, Houghton will remain at Alberton for at least another season.

The 30-year-old was the club’s leading goalkicker for a second time this year, having also kicked the most goals for Fremantle in the 2019 and 2020 seasons.

The fifth highest goal kicker in the history of the AFLW competition with 77 in her 74 matches, and just five goals behind the overall leader Danielle Ponter, Houghton provides a constant threat inside 50 with her speed, power and goal sense.

In 2024 she averaged 10.1 disposals and 3.4 tackles per game.

The dual All-Australian also stepped up in big moments including her late mark and goal in the Week 10 come-from-behind win over Greater Western Sydney and her two goals against Hawthorn in the remarkable Semi Final win last month.

Houghton was thrilled to be continuing on with the club, and excited for next season already.

“I love playing here. I’m going into my fourth year (here) and I absolutely love this club, I love what we’ve created this season with the girls, and I can't wait to be back here in 2025,” she said.

“I think we've got one of the most dangerous forward lines in the competition. It takes a bit of pressure off you individually; you just have to take your moment when it comes and that's what we did.

“We had multiple goal scorers across the entire season, and I'm so excited to get back to work with the girls and see what we can do together.”

List Manager Naomi Maidment was full of praise for the experienced forward.

“As well as being an exciting player to watch, Gemma has been a fantastic role model within our group and to First Nations people,” Maidment said.

“Her speed and unpredictable nature mean she remains a dangerous forward option. We’re pleased to be able to extend her contract".
