Connor Rozee will captain Port Adelaide’s AFL side for the second consecutive year, with the club finalising its leadership group for 2025.

Rozee will again be supported by vice-captain Zak Butters, with Sam Powell-Pepper and Willem Drew to round out the leadership group.

In 2024, Rozee became the eighth player to captain the Power’s AFL side, succeeding Tom Jonas upon his retirement from football at the end of the 2023 season.

“It’s a privilege to continue leading this group through this coming season,” Rozee said.

“I’ve grown so much as a person and a leader over the past year, and I feel better equipped for the challenges that come with being an AFL captain.

“We feel like we’re in a great position to set ourselves up for a strong 2025 season, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what we can do.

“I’m also happy to have Zak, Sam and Willem supporting me again. They’re all great people with elite standards who will help drive this group forward.”

The 25-year-old had a significant first year as captain; not only did he lead his side to a preliminary final, he married partner Maisie and became a father to baby Audrey.

Despite missing three games through injury, the two-time All-Australian still finished fourth in the John Cahill Medal count in October.

Vice-captain Butters continued to shine in 2024, taking home his second John Cahill Medal and second All-Australian blazer.

He led the side on three occasions in Rozee’s absence, including for a memorable, drought-breaking win at GMHBA Stadium over Geelong in Round 9.

Powell-Pepper missed most of last season with a knee injury, using the time to develop his off-field leadership, while Drew produced another outstanding year of football, polling sixth in the John Cahill Medal count.

Port Adelaide will play its first pre-season match on Friday, 21 February against Adelaide at Mt Barker.
