Port Adelaide SANFL recruit Jack Watkins has been named in the SANFL state team, preparing to play against the WAFL this Saturday.

It will be the first time Watkins would don the South Australian guernsey, after previously representing the VFL.

The 24-year-old is the former captain of North Melbourne’s VFL side, playing 63 games for the Kangaroos, before joining the Magpies this past summer.

Averaging 29.5 disposals, 5.2 marks and four clearances from the first six SANFL games of the season, Watkins has hit the ground running at his new club.

Port Adelaide’s Jez McLennan who represented the SANFL last month against the VFL is unavailable for selection while managing tightness in his calf.

Saturday’s state game will take place from 11:30am at Adelaide Oval and can be streamed live and free via the SANFL Now app.
