JACK TRENGOVE, Trent McKenzie and Peter Ladhams will continue their careers with Port Adelaide after each committing to one-year contract extensions.
Trengove and McKenzie arrived at Alberton as delisted free agents ahead of the 2018 season and have played three games and one game for the club respectively.
Trengove, a former captain of the Melbourne Demons, finished runner-up in the A. R. McLean Medal for the club’s SANFL best and fairest despite playing just 13 games for the Magpies, and picked up the Anthony Williams Memorial Trophy as the most consistent player.
He has played a total of 89 AFL games for 39 goals.
McKenzie averaged 16 disposals and six marks while providing valuable experience as a key defender in eleven SANFL games in 2018.
He has played 107 AFL games for 22 goals.
Ladhams is yet to make his AFL debut after being taken by the club in the 2016 Rookie Draft.
The ruckman averaged 10 disposals and 12 hit-outs at SANFL level in 2018 while also chipping in with 10 goals.
“Jack and Trent have done everything we have asked of them since coming across last year,” said General Manager – Football, Chris Davies.
“Their experience at SANFL level has been invaluable for our young group and it is a credit to their application that they each forced their way into the AFL side at different times.
“We believe Peter deserves an opportunity to continue to develop.”
Fellow rookie Cameron Hewett will be delisted but the club has committed to relisting him for 2019 at next month’s rookie draft.
The 21-year-old Port Broughton product is yet to make his AFL debut, after being taken in the 2016 Rookie Draft at pick 28.
He has played 43 SANFL games for the club including 12 in 2018, where he averaged 19.4 disposals and five marks.
Under AFL rules, a player can only be on a rookie list for a maximum of three years before they must be either delisted or upgraded to the senior list.
“Cam is a talented footballer and we have seen glimpses of what he can do in the SANFL,” said Davies.
“The challenge for him is to get his body right and take his game up a level in 2019, and we are willing to offer him that opportunity.”
