The Power was far too strong for the AFL newcomers, who debuted NRL convert Israel Folau, cruising to victory by 95 points.
Travis Boak and Robbie Gray were brilliant for the Power, owning the midfield and providing brilliant service for the likes of Jay Schulz and Daniel Motlop, who booted six and three respectively.
Schulz sparked the Power early, booting three in the opening term to open up a 26-point lead at the first break. But it was the local side's second quarter that broke the game wide open, booting 7.6 to 1.0 to lead by 68 points at half time.
Hamish Harltett spent more time in the middle of the ground and figured prominently in the second quarter, his piercing right boot involved in several scoring passages and also delivering a 55-metre goal where the goal umpire didn't have to move a muscle.
Matthew Broadbent was another to spend more time on the ball, the rugged midfielder's strong body important at contests as he also slipped forward to nab two goals.
GWS looked bright in the third quarter, suggesting they'll be a competitive team come 2012, outscoring Port Adelaide 2.4 to 2.2 for the period - Cameron Hitchcock coming off the bench at half time to be the Power's only goal kicker for the period.
The Power, however, tightened the screws in the final quarter to boot seven goals as the game became stretched in the heat - a goal after the siren to the Giants pulling the margin back under the 100 mark.
Despite getting good game time into a number of players who have returned from injury, the win was tarnished by a foot injury to midfielder Matt Thomas, who is likely to be out for six weeks. The club will provide more details on his injury early next week.
