THE Port Adelaide Football Club is saddened by the passing of long-time volunteer Clarence Alfred Hoffman.

The 95-year-old occupied a number of roles within the club including as timekeeper in the SANFL for many years from the 1960s through to the 2000s.

Affectionately known as “Clarrie”, he became a room steward and an important member and leader among the club’s support staff after the club’s entry into the AFL.

A passionate Port Adelaide person from a strong Port Adelaide family, Hoffman was much loved and respected by all of the players, coaches and administration staff who he worked with.

Named a life member of Port Adelaide in 1980, Hoffman was known to be selfless and dedicated to his family, his friends and his football club.

His brother Ron ‘Brick’ Hoffman is a member of the club’s Hall of Fame. He played 103 games for the club between 1939 and 1948 before becoming an administrator for two decades until 1992.

Clarrie Hoffman died peacefully on Saturday 21 September.

Port Adelaide players and staff wore black arm bands during the SANFL Grand Final a day later in his honour.

Clarrie Hoffman’s loss will be felt by all at Port Adelaide, including players, coaches, administration and support staff.

The Port Adelaide Football Club sends its condolences to his family, friends and former colleagues.
