PORT ADELAIDE midfielder Jack Trengove is relishing the lead-up to the 2019 SANFL Statewide Super League Grand Final, as he and the young Magpies group look to win the club its 38^th premiership.

Trengove says the expectation from Port’s loyal fans is to win grand finals - something the Magpies haven’t achieved since their eight-point victory over Norwood in 1999.

“It’s huge for the footy club,” Trengove told Dwayne Russell on SEN SA’s Dwayne’s World.

“To take some of these young guys through and give them good finals exposure, and hopefully run away with a premiership, would be amazing.

“All the supporters expect to win flags regularly at the Magpies, so we will be doing everything in our power to make sure that happens.

“We couldn’t be more excited and more ready for a great challenge.”

Trengove has only been at Port Adelaide for two seasons - having originally played for Sturt in the SANFL and then Melbourne in the AFL - but he is well aware of the history of the club and exactly what it means to wear the famous prison bar guernsey.

The 28-year-old said a victory over Glenelg on Sunday would mean so much to the Port Adelaide family.

“You don’t really appreciate it and understand it until you are a part of it, and wear the prison bars,” he said.

“There is so much passion, and so many legends who have come out of this footy club. It’s been so successful over the years.

“Russell Ebert is still running around and working for the club - he’s an absolute legend of the place.

“To think that you’re one of those players now, trying to create your own history, is amazing to be a part of. I think that is a huge motivation for a lot of the boys in the side right now.”

The former Melbourne captain said he has been impressed with the crowds at the SANFL throughout the year, and is urging the black and white army to come out in force at Adelaide Oval for the premiership-decider.

“The SANFL is so huge here in Adelaide,” Trengove said.

“To be back a part of it - I’ve loved every second of it the last couple of years. There is still so much passion from supporters and everybody watching.

“You can see with the crowds we have been getting lately, there is no doubt it is huge.

“As I said, I’ve loved every second of it, and I can’t wait to launch into this week and this weekend, and hopefully get some success.”

The Magpies and Bays will do battle for the 2019 premiership on Sunday afternoon at Adelaide Oval, with the game commencing at 3.00pm.
