A large crowd of locals and travellers piled into Memorial Oval in Port Pirie for the SANFL Showdown between Port Adelaide and Adelaide on Saturday.

The Magpies had plenty of contributors, including six goals from Billy Frampton and 38 disposals from Matthew Broadbent in a runaway 30-point victory over arch rivals and ladder leaders, the Crows.

The match got off to the best possible start for Port with Frampton marking from a quick centre break, 20 seconds into the match to kick the Magpies first goal.

There was a little bit of niggle between the rivals early in the match after the long bus ride, but Adelaide had the better of the next five minutes, surging the ball forward.

After repeated efforts Elliott Himmelberg got on the end of a long ball, marking and goalling on the goal line at the six minute mark.

Port again enjoyed a quality inside 50 from the centre bounce and Aidyn Johnson straight away curled home the answering goal.

The Magpies managed to lock the ball in their forward half and forced the Crows into mistakes, but weren’t able to get a major on the board despite peppering the goal front.

Broadbent took an intercept mark and once again found Frampton on the lead, who finally broke through for the Magpies after 11 goalless minutes.

Port had a harder edge and courage to take the game on through the middle which resulted in repeated scoring opportunities.

The Magpies had three in a row and an 18-point lead when Boyd Woodcock found space 30m out and Tom Corcoran booted his first League goal with the final kick of the first term to give his side a 26-point lead.

Port again dominated the early stages of the second term with repeated entries as Jarrod Lienert gathered plenty of the ball and took intercept marks across the middle of the ground, while Broadbent stood up as acting captain.

Frampton took another nice mark in the pocket and booted his third goal before Jordan Gallucci stemmed the flow for the Crows with a long goal.

Darcy Fogarty charged the Crows forward from the restart and Himmelberg kicked his second, and suddenly they had three in a row when Kieran Strachan crumbed a goal.

Sam Davidson importantly stopped the damaging run with a snap around the corner before Crow Jordan Boyle wobbled one home in a challenging breeze to reduce the margin to 12 points at half time.

After the Crows controlled the back half of the second term, Port quickly answered back in the third with a Joe Atley goal in the opening minute.

The scoreboard was beginning to look good for the Magpies, who held a 24-point lead when Boyd Woodcock slotted one from deep in the pocket soon after.

Frampton had his fourth, seven minutes into the third term and Port held a five-goal buffer on its arch rivals.

The Magpies were threatening to put the foot down and run away to a big win with Woodcock booting three goals in an impressive quarter, but Fogarty and Sam Jacobs kicked steadying goals for the Crows to keep them in the hunt.

It went goal for goal to end the term with the Magpies taking an 18-point lead into the final quarter.

Willem Drew was dominating through the midfield, while Broadbent and Lienert patrolled the half back line, but Frampton’s sixth mark 55m out in the boundary line provided a highlight with it resulting in his fifth goal, early in the last quarter.

Pete Ladhams joined in on the act with a strong mark and goal in a very enjoyable day for Magpies fans.

Without big names Paddy Ryder, Sam Powell-Pepper and captain Cam Sutcliffe Port’s youth stood up with Jack Strange, Cam Hewett and Matt Appleton playing important roles in the 15.9 (99) to 10.9 (69) win.
