PORT ADELAIDE progressed to the SANFL Statewide Super League Second Semi Final against Glenelg after a strong 30-point win over Adelaide on Saturday night.
The Magpies outlasted the Crows, kicking nine goals to five after quarter time to make it five wins in a row, and 10 victories in their last 11 games.
Here are some talking points from the five-goal defeat of the Crows.
Peter Ladhams and Sam Hayes provide a strong ruck combination:
Peter Ladhams was one of the most influential players in the qualifying final, combining with Sam Hayes to dominate the ruck contest.
Ladhams was brilliant with 23 disposals, 23 hit-outs, six clearances, four marks and two goals, and continually set-up Port’s midfielders with his ruck craft.
Hayes also had 11 touches, 21 hit-outs, four marks, three clearances and a goal of his own.
The Magpies have plenty of midfield depth:
Willem Drew, Jack Trengove, Joe Atley and Cam Sutcliffe were all at the top of the disposal-getters list for the Magpies in the qualifying final.
Drew had a game-high 32 touches, while Trengove (29), Atley (28) and Sutcliffe (28) were also prolific, and it allowed Sam Mayes (21 touches and three goals) to spend more time in the attacking half.
Mayes - who has spent most of the year in the middle - combined well with Tobin Cox (2.5) and Boyd Woodcock (2.0) to kick a winning score for Port.
Trent McKenzie continues his good 2019 form:
Trent McKenzie had a game-high 24 kicks and 11 marks on Saturday night, with his precision kicking from half-back a real highlight from Saturday’s win.
McKenzie had seven rebound 50s and three inside 50s which indicated his ability to provide run in both defence and attack.
The 27-year-old also combined well with youngster Joel Garner to keep Adelaide to just 15 scoring shots - with the damaging Crows forwards having minimal impact on the game.
