PORT ADELAIDE has stormed home in the second half to defeat Gold Coast by 38 points at a wet Adelaide Oval on Sunday afternoon.
Port kicked seven goals to one after half time, to register its fifth win of the season and move back into the top eight.
After a very contested start to the game, it was the Suns who opened the scoring thanks to a quick snap from Brayden Fiorini.
The Power hit straight back through a Billy Frampton set shot, before Alex Sexton ended a 10-minute goalless stretch with a bomb from outside 50.
Kane Farrell again answered for the home side with a nice gather and left-foot snap from the top of the goal square, as the rain started to thump down.
It was goal-for-goal as Sexton kicked his second after pouncing on a defensive mistake, before Karl Amon once again answered for the Power.
Stuart Dew’s men headed into the first break with a nine-point advantage thanks to a late major to speedster Jack Martin.
Zak Butters opened the scoring in the second term with a nice finish from 50 after being spotted up by Connor Rozee.
Another lengthy goalless spell was ended by Paddy Ryder who kicked truly after being awarded a 50-metre penalty, to hand the home side consecutive goals for the first time of the afternoon.
Jack Bowes answered straight back for the visitors, before Sam Gray gave the Power back the lead.
Xavier Duursma was penalised for a deliberate out of bounds with seconds remaining in the first half, and Ben Ainsworth capitalised with a goal after the siren to give the Suns a four-point advantage at the main break.
Travis Boak continued his great start to the year with 15 disposals to half time, while Dacry Byrne-Jones, Tom Rockliff and Duursma all had 12 touches for Ken Hinkley’s men.
Fiorini dominated the opening two terms with 21 possessions and a goal, while Bowes had 16 touches and a goal.
Frampton kicked his second in the early minutes of the third term, but a fantastic snap from Peter Wright handed the visitors back the advantage again.
Steven Motlop then goaled from a free kick, before Rozee snapped truly to give the Power back-to-back goals.
Port headed into the final term with a 13-point lead, thanks to a three-goal-to-one third quarter.
Farrell kicked his second to open the final term and hand the Power a handy 20-point break in the wet.
Rozee’s second goal and a third to Frampton extended the lead to beyond five goals after the Power completely dominated the inside 50 count in the second half.
Farrell put some icing on the cake for the home side with a fourth unanswered fourth-quarter goal.
The former skipper Boak led from the front with 36 touches, while Rockliff (30), Byrne-Jones (24) and Sam Gray (24 and a goal) were also influential.
Fiorini led all-comers on the ground with 38 touches, while Lachie Weller and Bowes each had 24 disposals for the Suns, but it wasn’t enough as the Power ran out six-goal winners.
