Rob Kerin on the importance of Variety’s partnership with the clubs:
“Variety support the two foundations to do the good work they do in the community.
“It’s an opportunity to shine a light on the great work the two clubs actually do, and it’s our honour to be able to help them in doing that terrific work.
“It ticks the box for us, in terms of the money we raise going to good causes and seeing the value for money people give to Variety.
“It’s a good way of promoting what Variety do and it does promote what the clubs do.
“The clubs do a hell of a lot of good work, particularly with kids that doesn’t always make the newsroom.
Ollie Wines on Port’s pride to work with Variety:
“Our club is a community born club and pride ourselves on all of the programs we run in the community.
“To be associated with Variety - for the Showdowns - gives those underprivileged children in need the opportunity to flourish.
Wines on moving on to this weekend’s Showdown:
“We are excited.
“We’ve made a pretty big call to move on from losses, and Friday night was very disappointing.
“We will review it today, but it doesn’t get much bigger than this game, twice a year for us.
“We know the Crows have a bit of momentum coming into this match and they are starting to hit their straps.
Wines on the frustration of Friday night:
“I was frustrated with my game and how I led the boys on the night.
“I wasn’t able to impact the team early in the game when the game was on the line.
“We as players love playing in the big games and it doesn’t get bigger than this.
“As captain of this proud club, to be running out in my first Showdown as captain will be something really special.
Wines on this season’s form of the team:
“We’ve been a bit inconsistent throughout the year.
“We’ve had some good games and then we’ve had some poor games.
“They jumped us and that’s been a bit of a trend, particularly at Marvel -we need to address that.
“It came down to our contest in the end and they were able to get away from stoppage too easily.
