AS Port Adelaide prepares to face Geelong at Adelaide Oval for its blockbuster ANZAC Round clash, portadelaidefc.com.au takes a look back on the last time the sides met, in Geelong.

Port Adelaide had just come off a bye, having played its historic clash against Gold Coast in Shanghai the week before and the trip to Victoria’s south-west was a real test of how the players would recover.

The game was at a venue where the Power had won just twice in 13 games and against a team which had won 12 of the previous 13 games involving the sides.

The high quality match is most remembered for a controversial umpiring decision in the last quarter when Port Adelaide forward Charlie Dixon was called to play on for taking too long to take his set shot while the Power held a narrow lead.

With just over a minute on the clock Cats midfielder Patrick Dangerfield booted what would turn out to be the match-winner, although in the dying stages Robbie Gray was manhandled in a marking contest where he would have had a chance to steal back the lead.

Jared Polec was impressive with 29 touches and an outstanding boundary line goal, while Gray had three goals in what was ultimately a controversial and disappointing loss after a strong team performance.
