JUST one Port Adelaide player polled any votes in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year Award after the Power’s disappointing loss to Essendon on Sunday.
Robbie Gray was the Power’s sole vote recipient, picking up six out of a possible ten votes.
Gray had a game-high 39 disposals and ten clearances including four from the centre, and was instrumental in keeping his side in the match when the Bombers threatened to run away with it.
In a game where Port Adelaide’s disposal efficiency was poor, Gray’s was at 84.6 per cent.
He also had five inside 50s and four rebound 50s to go with four tackles.
Essendon’s Michael Hurley polled highest with eight votes from the match.
He played a crucial role in repelling Port Adelaide’s attacks and managed 29 disposals, 15 marks and eight rebound 50s.
Others to poll included Bombers’ skipper Dyson Heppell with six votes, David Myers with five, veteran Brendon Goddard with three and Zach Merrett with two.
Ben Brown (North Melbourne), Nick Haynes (GWS Giants), Brandan Parfitt (Geelong Cats) and Liam Shiels (Hawthorn) all received the maximum ten votes from the AFL coaches in round 4.
Hawthorn’s Tom Mitchell held his place at the top of the overall leaderboard despite failing to poll in his side’s win over Melbourne. Collingwood’s Steele Sidebottom has closed to within two votes, while teammate Brodie Grundy and Richmond’s Brownlow Medallist Dustin Martin have joined Adelaide’s Rory Laird a further vote behind.
