AS Port Adelaide prepares to face West Coast at Optus Stadium in Round 7 of the 2018 AFL season, portadelaidefc.com.au takes a look back at the last time the two sides met.
It was the elimination final last season at Adelaide Oval, and Port Adelaide was looking to go deep into the finals after finishing fifth, against an Eagles side which had scraped into the finals on percentage.
In what will go down as an all-time great encounter, the Power fought back from 31 points down at the 10-minute mark of the second quarter to take the lead in the last quarter after kicking six unanswered goals.
But when scores finished level at the end of full time, extra time was required with two five-minute periods to be played to separate the sides.
While the Power had been inaccurate and wasteful, it seemed it had done enough to hold on, until high tackle free kick with just 20 seconds remaining saw Luke Shuey have the chance to win the game after the siren, which he did to seal a two-point victory.
Ollie Wines was huge for the home side with 28 touches and two goals, while Robbie Gray (30 disposals, six marks, and six tackles), Charlie Dixon (3 goals, 23 disposals, seven marks, and four tackles) and Paddy Ryder (54 hit-outs) were also immense.
