AHEAD of their meeting in Round 1 of the 2018 AFL Premiership Season, we thought we would look back at one of the best clashes between Port Adelaide and Fremantle.

While the Power holds a narrow lead of 18 wins to 15 in 33 matches against the Dockers, perhaps the most important win came in the Sem Final at Subiaco on September 13, 2014.

Fresh off a huge win over Richmond in the Elimination Final at Adelaide Oval a week earlier, the Power was expecting a much tighter encounter in Western Australia, and were completely outplayed for much of the first half.

The Dockers led by 31 points late in the second term, before a Chad Wingard goal closed the gap to 24 at half time.

The home side would be left to rue not making the most of its first-half dominance.

The Power’s stars stepped up in the second half, with Robbie Gray booting four goals in the third term, while Ollie Wines kicked three second-half goals to go with his 26 disposals, and Wingard finishing with four goals.

In all, Port kicked 12 goals to five in the second half to overrun their more fancied opponents and set up a Preliminary Final against Hawthorn at the MCG.
