Port Adelaide Football Club has welcomed the commitment by SA Best today to provide $7.2 million in funding towards a redevelopment at Alberton.

$6 million of the funding will support the development of an Aboriginal Centre of Excellence, while the remaining $1.2 million will fund a lighting upgrade and a museum at Alberton Oval.

Port Adelaide’s Chief Executive Officer, Keith Thomas, said the funding would be an important contribution towards the Aboriginal Centre of Excellence, which is designed to provide accommodation and education for around 50 indigenous youth across the State.

“Design work on the centre is progressing, but construction will not commence until it is fully funded,” he said.

“Today’s announcement by SA Best’s Nick Xenophon and Gary Johanson shows their strong commitment to this project.”

SA Best’s announcement follows a $4 million Federal Government grant towards the centre announced last year.
