NEW Port Adelaide recruit Scott Lycett gave a press conference at the Port Adelaide lighthouse on Monday after the club announced a new partnership with Dock One by Starfish.
He discussed how it felt to be back at Alberton after leaving for West Coast in 2010 after winning a reserves premiership as a teenager.
He also talked about his excitement at working with Paddy Ryder, silencing critics of playing two ruckmen and whether he would put his hand up for a leadership position.
Here are the best bits:
Scott Lycett on his return to Alberton:
“I’m just really enjoying being back at Alberton. It’s just such a rich history of a club and just training at Alberton just feels like a privilege every time you get out there.”
Scott Lycett on working with Paddy Ryder as tandem ruckmen:
“We haven’t really knuckled down on the specifics of what’s going to come next year but I’m sure that will come and I’m looking forward to working with Paddy. He’s obviously a great ruckman and I’m looking forward to silencing the critics of people that say you can’t play two rucks in the team. There was a time there where people thought you couldn’t do it but obviously in the Grand Final both teams had two ruckmen so looking forward to working with Paddy.”
Scott Lycett on who replaces Travis Boak as captain of Port Adelaide:
“I think it’s really important to have a strong group of leaders and I can definitely see that’s the case at Port so I’m not sure who’ll be the skipper but there’s a few candidates to go around because there’s some good leaders at the club.”
Scott Lycett on whether he would seek a leadership role with the Power:
“It’s not something I’d say no to but I’m just mindful that I’ve been here for three weeks and I’ve still got to earn my spot in the team and earn the trust of my teammates and there’s only one way you can do that, by working hard and earning the respect of your teammates, coaches and the fans,” he commented.
Scott Lycett on what knowledge he brings to the club from his premiership success at West Coast:
“There’s not too much I could probably bring. I think every team trains hard and that’s no different at Port Adelaide so I’ll just try and give a couple of things I’ve learnt along the way and if that can help contribute to us winning games then hopefully we can do that.”
