JUSTIN WESTHOFF is teaching South Australian kids how to grow their own food through his new venture, Forage Supply Co.
At 30, Westhoff - like many players who reach that milestone - is mindful of the future.
But this project is as much a labour of love, as it is a potential career post-football.
Forage will work to set up community gardens around South Australia, where children at local schools learn the value and importance of growing their own food.
Westhoff and business partner Scott Rogasch launched their first community garden at Tanunda Lutheran School, and already it's seeing great results, with the first seedlings planted this week.
Port Adelaide will support its favourite swingman's venture by purchasing an allotment at the school, and using what the children grow in the meals prepared for the Power players during the week at Alberton.
"We are raising money to start up school gardens and teach kids about the importance of having a healthy and sustainable lifestyle," Westhoff told portadelaidefc.com.au.
"Sustainability is a passion of mine, and the school gardens are the next step in our journey.
"Six months ago we started up a food truck from which we sell sustainable produce, and we also have a wine label where we produce wine through sustainable practices."
