A FINAL TERM blitz from the GWS Giants put Port Adelaide's hopes in the nation's capital to bed after a three quarter wrestle on Saturday night.

Unable to best the Giants in the final half hour of play at UNSW Canberra Oval, the Power could mange just one score - a behind - after leading by four points at the final change.

The fourth quarter masked what was otherwise a close, if error-laden game for most of the afternoon. 

Both the Power and Giants coughed up the ball under pressure and failed to hit their best in the first three quarters.

Yet GWS always seemed to be clean and controling enough to never let Port's opportunism get out of hand.

The Power took every opportunity afforded to them, and were ascendent at the back ends of the second and third terms. 

Before half time, it was Chad Wingard and Aaron Young who edged the Power into a one-point lead at the main break, while Trengove, Wines and Westhoff kicked third-term enders to keep the visitors in front by four points at the final change.

 

But the Giants steamrolled their way to the final bell, with 5.6 - 11 scoring shots - to the Power's solitary Sam Gray behind.

A small positive for the Power was the return of Jasper Pittard, who looked as though he'd barely missed a beat despite missing five weeks with a hamstring injury. He led for Port with 24 possessions and four rebounds.

The result leaves Port Adelaide at an even ledger heading into Round 5 against Carlton following losses to the Crows and now GWS, and victories over the Swans and Dockers in the first two weeks of the season. 

The Power host the Blues in the Anzac Round opener at 7.30pm on Friday 21 April.
