We had the game on our terms and got the ball forward a lot. We dominated inside 50s, but we just couldn’t capitalise on them. We had too many shots that were out of range and there wasn’t a high percentage shot on goal for us.
We spoke about how our inside 50s needed to be really good against West Coast’s marking backs – they have some great intercept markers there and we tried to get in there and take on those guys…but I think we got done on the ground balls.
We tried our guts out in the last quarter and unfortunately we just didn’t get there. They fought really hard to put the body on our boys – a few times they were a lot harder than us, and that’s where they got up.
We just had to try and keep the ball away from their intercept markers and we had a few poor choices going forward – we went back and sideways too much, instead of going forward to our clear one on ones.

It’s pretty frustrating to lead in all the key stats, but at the end of the day, if you don’t take your chances going inside 50, not finishing our work probably cost us in the end.
We had control in our forward 50 for a lot of the night, and then they’d sneak one through and kick an easy one. We’ll look at that, review it and get it better for next time.
We didn’t look too closely at the ladder – we respect West Coast, they’re a very good side in their own right.
