THE POWER are still 'building' towards Round 1, but despite a frustrating patchwork of performances in pre-season, Ken Hinkley is enouraged by his side's poised and measured performance against the Hawks today.
And most of the team is set in stone - at least in the coaches' minds - meaning only a handful of spots are up for grabs.
"Obviously today we left [Robbie] Gray, Wingard, Broadbent [out of the side], Pittard won't be available, Monfries played well in the SANFL, [Willem] Drew even played well," Hinkley said.
"We've been trying to build, we've been frustrating to ourselves as much as anyone else, and we're probably still building," Hinkley said.
"We've changed the squad during the pre-season and trying to get that right, hopefully it will keep us in good stead during the season."
Very few players will be on the injury list as of this weekend's closing game, the Power is in a strong position to refine its group before Round 1.
Hinkley acknowledge the challenge of that test - the Swans at the SCG - but is confident the final fortnight before the season proper will give his players time to get themselves right for the real deal.
"We've still got plenty to fine tune and get right," Hinkley said.
"As I keep saying, we've made some significant change in the off-season, we've got a bit to still do and we continue to work on that.
"The boys have had plenty of time off leading up to this stage and we've now got two good weeks now, which is really important, and we've got two good, solid weeks in Adelaide where we can hopefully get ourselves ready for a big test: Sydney in Sydney."
The Power take on the Swans at the SCG in Round 1 on Saturday 25 March.
