ON ELECTION DAY, only one party can win the contest, but in footy it's a different story, with Port Adelaide finishing with three wins in 24 hours after its SANFL League and Academy teams added to the club's Friday night AFL victory.
It is the first time this season the treble has been completed.
John Butcher booted six goals to propel the Magpies to their fourth win of the season - a 39-point victory - and helped keep their slim finals hopes alive.
Butcher played his best game for the club in the SANFL so far this year, but not just because of his ability to hit the scoreboard.
He finished the match with nine marks, more than half of those contested, one tackle and 14 disposals.
Despite a sluggish start which forced Port to contend with a 17-point deficit at quarter time, Paul Stewart’s desperation right on the Bulldogs’ goal line sparked new life into the Magpies.
Port held the home side to just 2.3 after the main break while turning the game decisively in its favour.
Sam Gray’s work at the stoppages was second-to-none and he led the clearances with 11.
He was supported by Jimmy Toumpas and Jared Polec who provided the outside run - Toumpas with an incredible 39 touches.
The win puts the Magpies in seventh place on the SANFL ladder - three games out of the top five.
Port Adelaide will look to string consecutive victories together when it plays West Adelaide at City Mazda Stadium on Saturday July 9 at 2.10pm.
