IT was Port Adelaide’s first AFL win in Victoria and it was a come-from-behind thriller.
‘90s cult hero Nigel Fiegert will open proceedings at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday afternoon with the First Goal of the Game.
Way back in 1997 - Round 12 to be precise - the flegling Power travelled to Princes Park to take on the Western Bulldogs.
While Terry Wallace's men would eventually make the preliminary final that year, John Cahill's Port was a team still finding its feet.
And it certainly looked that way in the first quarter, with the Power booting 1.4 to the Bulldogs' 8.2.
But the tide turned after quarter time.
Port held the Dogs goalless in the second while closing the gap to 16 points at half time.
Then Port surged and effected a surprising turnaround to eventually prevail by 12 point.
The win was recently listed as one of the Power's best ever victories by Fairfax recently, with the goal kicking brilliance of Scott Cummings (five goals) and Fiegert (three) as well as the ball-winning brilliance of Brayden Lyle, Roger James and Donald Dickie coming to the fore.
Nigel Fiegert will kick the First Goal of the Game before Port Adelaide's clash with the GWS Giants at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday 24 July. BUY TICKETS
