1. O Captain! My captain
Port Adelaide captain Steve Summerton has had a somewhat quiet month by his standards, but in his side's do-or-die clash with Glenelg on Saturday, he led the way from the first bounce. Summerton's on-field leadership shone through and he played with heart and hunger at the stoppages and had a team-first attitude. The 29-year-old collected a game-high 33 disposals, four clearances, three defensive rebounds and two goals. He worked hard to win every one-on-one contest and his defensive work was also second-none.

2. Terry Milera inspired Glenelg in the one that got away
Glenelg fans could have been forgiven for thinking the match was all-but over by half time as their players looked flat and uninspired and faced a 35-point deficit at half time. But, the 28-year-old former Saint Kilda player, Terry Milera, inspired the Bays with his classy foot work and marking skills up-forward. He booted three goals in a row to close the margin to just 18 points. His work was all in vain, though, as Port's defence tightened up and forced turnovers to produce its 55-point win.

3. Pressure is the key
Port's pressure was the difference between the two sides on Saturday and the statistics back it up. The Magpies recorded 13 more tackles than Glenelg (75-62) and forced turnovers by being hot on the Tigers' tails. Will Snelling led the tackle count, finishing with a game-high 17. Kane Mitchell (9 tackles), Louis Sharrad (7) and Tom Gray (6) were also impressive defensively. Lucky for the visitors, their forwards capitalised and kicked 20 goals between 11 players.

4. Fifth spot still up for the taking
Port's win over Glenelg stamped out any chance the Tigers had of miraculously moving into fifth and securing a finals berth. But, after Central District, which sits in fifth, went down to Woodville-West Torrens, Port is just one game behind the Dogs and suddenly their finals light is flickering that bit brighter. Port still has to win its final game of the home and away season against Norwood next weekend and Central must also drop its final match (which will be played the following week as the Dogs have a bye), for the Magpies to jump into the five
