PORT ADELAIDE has lost the 41st Showdown.
Taylor Walker's final goal for the Crows all-but sealed the game with 1.22 remaining, although a late goal from Matthew Broadbent had the Power still entertaining the chance of a last-gasp surge.
But the game was, ultimately, lost in the second quarter, where the Power's poor disposal and paltry six entries into attacking 50 (compared to Adelaide's 22).
Port kicked its first goal for the term after 30 minutes, but Adelaide failed to land a killing blow despite its 12 scoring shots. Instead the game was left open at the long change with the Crows leading by 13 points.
The Power's second quarter undid the exciting work of its first.
Showing some of its best contested pressure for 2016, the Power held a one-point lead at quarter time.
It recaptured that form with a strong start in the third.
Dicing with the Crows early, Port booted six for the quarter with Polec lighting the true spark of its resurgence with a thrilling running goal from inside the centre quarter.
A Rory Sloane fist to the face of Brad Ebert sidelined the gritty midfielder, with Jimmy Toumpas cooly slotting the Power's response.
Few would have expected the Power's best highlight to eclipse Robbie Gray's daring duck-and-weave goal, but eclipse it did.
It was Travis Boak who delivered, first with a courageous smother to spill a ball to Jake Neade who dribbled the goal.
Boak then followed up with the last for the quarter to close the margin back within a point at the final change.
Port Adelaide plays its final game of the 2016 season against the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium on Saturday 27 August.
