SAM COLQUHOUN has racked up 24 disposals in the wet during Central District’s 24-point win over South.

Colquhoun, the Power football development team’s SANFL Player of the Week, was impressive in all aspects of his game according to Port Adelaide’s football development manager Daniel Healy.

“Sammy played as a spare back for Centrals for the majority of the day,” Healy told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“It was a pleasure to watch the way he's able to read the game and position himself.

“He had a lot of intercept possessions, a lot of times he was the first man back to clean up the ground ball and at others he was more than happy to cover for a teammate.

“He was very, very smart.”

Healy said the only area lacking during Colquhoun’s performance was a few missed targets from his kicking, but this may have been impacted by the slippery conditions.

Mason Shaw was also encouraging for South Adelaide switching between the ruck and up forward.

“He had limited opportunities in a losing side on a wet day, which always makes it difficult to show your wares, particularly when you’re split between rucking and forward roles as well,” explained Healy.

“But he still took five marks and had 13 possessions as well as kicking 1.1”

“There’s definitely enough to like from him up forward, but the area for us to really see some improvement in is his centre square work.

“He has been good rucking around the ground though.”

Healy and development coach Tyson Edwards observed the match between Port Adelaide’s SANFL team and Sturt.

Jack Hombsch was strong in his first game back for the Double Blues and could be reconsidered for AFL selection on Thursday.

“Hombschy was very, very good,” said Healy.

“He played mainly on the Magpies' Corey Grove and was all over him in the lead-ups and at contests.

“He looked like a real AFL player out there which is what we expect.”

Edwards was pleased with the consistency and effort shown by Ben Newton and Brendon Ah Chee in a losing side.

“Newts played his usual role in the midfield and was pretty good for his time on the field,” Edwards told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“Arch’ was similar and you could see he was trying to retain possession longer and have a better impact with his ball use.”

Justin Hoskin and Aaron Young had quieter games for the Magpies while Danny Butcher played back in the reserves.

Club recruiter Brett Knowles observed three players in the Eagles team that went down to West Adelaide at Richmond Oval.

Nick Salter had 19 touches around the ground.

He didn’t kick any goals but did manage five clearances.

“He started forward and then moved up ground after he struggled to make an impact there,” Knowles told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“He won more of the footy there and then was pushed into defence to fill some gaps.”

Kane Mitchell was energetic around the ground even when the Eagles were falling behind the Bloods but could only find the footy 14 times.

Campbell Heath
faced a great deal of pressure throughout the day with West booting three goals in the second term and six in the third.

But he was serviceable in defence and kept his opponents quiet throughout the day.

Glenelg struggled at home against North Adelaide and the Power’s players in that game battled to have an impact on the game.

Development coach Stuart Cochrane observed the game and was satisfied with certain aspects of the efforts put in by Tom Clurey, Cameron Hitchcock and Nathan Blee, but felt their ability to have an influence across four quarters was less than it has been at other stages this year.
