PORT Adelaide president Brett Duncanson has encouraged fans not to single out Adelaide defender Nathan Bock for special attention ahead of Saturday night’s Showdown XXVI.

Bock, who was reported for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend outside a hotel in early April, was booed by Melbourne supporters throughout Sunday’s dour struggle at the MCG.

After the game, Crows coach Neil Craig described the crowd’s behaviour as being in poor taste.

On Monday, Duncanson encouraged Power fans to leave the All-Australian centre half-back alone.

“It’s not my role to tell our supporters what to do, but I’d encourage them to concentrate on our guys and getting them across the line,” Duncanson said.

“We believe they’re the most passionate supporters in the land and they’re very passionate about our superstars.

“I’m sure they’ll concentrate on our people and what Adelaide’s players are up to is up to them.”

Bock was received warmly by Crows’ fans in his return from a one-match ban against Geelong at AAMI Stadium in round four.

Adelaide CEO Steven Trigg implored his club’s supporters to get along to Port Adelaide’s ‘home’ Showdown on Saturday night and make the environment more comfortable for Bock and his teammates.

“I agreed with Neil that it (the Melbourne crowd’s behaviour) was poor form. A pragmatist, however, would clearly understand that Nathan is going to get that for a while until it dies down in peoples’ mind,” Trigg said.

“Whether he gets that again this week remains to be seen. The more people we have fill the ground, the better it will be for him won’t it?

“Hopefully, there is enough respect there from both sides of the camp to understand that things have been dealt with and are continuing to be dealt with. He probably doesn’t need to be the subject of that sort of behaviour.”
