COULD PORT ADELAIDE be staring down a second John Cahill Medal tie in six years? The fans seem to think so.

Port Adelaide’s Facebook fan poll had Robbie Gray – the dual John Cahill Medallist – and Jasper Pittard locked on 44% of the vote each on Wednesday morning.

It was daylight between the pair to Ollie Wines and Jackson Trengove – picked by the Power social media team as chance competitors for the medal given their 20+ games for the year, the former's status as the Power’s optimum ball-winner and the latter as a reinvented ruck option.

‘Someone else’ was given a 1% chance.

“He held the backline together all season”

Jasper Pittard’s year has been lauded by Power fans, and he was the only Port man to be nominated for the All-Australian team (eventually missing the final cut).

He was a narrow second to Gray in the Fans’ MVP award.

“He’s all class”

But fans also struggled to look past Robbie Gray’s undeniable class. Despite missing games through injury, Gray was again one of the Power’s most important players with a supreme impact throughout the year.

He made the AFL Coaches’ Association’s All-Australian team, was the winner of the Power’s Fans’ MVP award and was the highest-rated Port player in the AFLCA Champion Player Award.

If Gray wins the John Cahill Medal on Friday night it will be his third, and bring him within one win of the all-time record of four jointly held by Warren Tredrea and Kane Cornes.
