KANE MITCHELL will depart Port Adelaide as a best-and-fairest winner after taking home the club’s prestigious A.R.McLean Medal at the John Cahill Medal awards night.
Mitchell, 26, polled in 11 of the Magpies 18 games making his achievement even more remarkable considering his four games of AFL football during the year.
His consistency on field was also acknowledged through him being awarded the Max Porter Memorial Trophy as the club’s most consistent league player.
It was a close finish to the medal count with Magpies skipper Steven Summerton – himself a triple winner of the award – who drew level with Mitchell following Port’s win over Woodville-West Torrens in Round 16.
Summerton finished six votes behind Mitchell in second.
Revelation key forward Luke Reynolds was a fast-finisher in the count, finishing third on the back of his end-of-year purple patch which saw him achieve multiple goal hauls to also earn the Magpies’ leading goal kicker crown.
Biemans gets dual gongs
Anthony Biemans received two recognitions for his on and off-field work for the Magpies, taking home the coveted Anthony Williams Memorial Trophy and the Bob Clayton Award as the most outstanding clubman in 2016.
Aside from being the leading Magpie in attack, Luke Reynolds also took home the Fos Williams Memorial Trophy as the most dedicated player in the team.
His hard work throughout the pre-season led to his outstanding performance across half-forward during the year.
Levi Proude was crowned the Academy’s best and fairest after a strong year that also saw him finish second in the Reserves Magarey Medal count.
Zac Hawkins finished second in the count, ahead of Sam Clements and Ciaran Hollingworth-Hughes, who tied for third.
